Psalm 26 - A Taste for Holiness is a Taste for Heaven

The next three psalms are about wanting to be in God's place, with Him. We have seen the incredibly high bar to ascend God's holy hill in Psalms 15 and 24. When one of our children was young we planned a trip to London and told her we would see Buckingham Palace "where the queen lives". "I go in," she asserted. It's not that simple. You have to be invited in. Of course, if we knew the Prince of Wales and he invited us that would be different. And that is a bit like the privilege we have in knowing Jesus and being invited to His Father's house, the home of glory. (v.8)

Once again Jesus is The One who can say, "I have lived a blameless life and have always kept my eyes on your love and my feet in your faithfulness." (vv.1-3) But David has an attraction for holiness and an aversion to wicked schemes. Unlike Billy Joel he doesn't think the sinners are much more fun; he neither wants to go along with them (vv4,5) or end up with them. (vv9,10) He has a taste for holiness and therefore a taste for heaven.

This taste is part of the assurance we will join him there, in God's place, where true glory dwells, praising Him in the great congregation.

As the writer of Hebrews reminds us - "Try to be at peace with everyone, and try to live a holy life, because no one will see the Lord without it". Thank God we have one who can help us live such a life, 'The Holy Spirit' who lives with us, abides with us and fills us. Thanks for sharing Tim.
