There are some situations we can only trust our way out of.
Psalm 31 is unusual in that he seems to have surfaced once and then sunk beneath the waves a second time, which is not uncommon.
In the first half he commits his spirit into God's hands, as Jesus did on the cross. v5 (Jesus of course is the ultimate life of faith.)

In the second half he is conscious that his life is in God's hands. v15 These are the two sides of the coin of faith. There are others eager to get their hands on him and indeed threats from every angle in what seems like a campaign of terror (v15) but the refuge is always "my life in your hands Lord."
He feels like an empty shell v10 or a piece of broken pottery, kicked around by small boys like bashed up tin cans in our streets. But he believes that the Lord has got a shed-load of good things stored up for all who fear Him. Our greatest testimonies too come out of the times when we feel like there is no way out. Somehow God came through. When we feel we are under siege then we can rehearse past testimonies and remember that today like every day, and this situation like every situation, is in His hands. So people of God who wait on Him be strong and take heart. v24
